We catch up with BASE BODY BABES-approved physiotherapist, exercise coach, and MACROS lover Kayla Mulvogue @kaylaleephysio for the down low on her top workout recovery tips, career motivations, and injury recovery advice.
WHAT MOTIVATED YOU TO STUDY PHYSIOTHERAPY?
I’ve always loved health and fitness growing up and played many sports, so it was natural for me to get into Exercise and Sport Science and then go on to study Physio from there.
YOUR TOP 3 PREHAB TIPS/PROTOCOLS TO PREVENT INJURY DURING EXERCISE?
- Always do a proper warm-up and take your time!
- Progress gradually and manage your load!
- Do your accessory and mobility work!
WHICH WORKOUT MOVES WITH A LOW INJURY-RISK WOULD YOU RECOMMEND FOR ANYONE WANTING TO UP THEIR STRENGTH?
Squats, deadlifts, and push ups. All [performed] with correct technique should not cause pain or injury!
YOUR TOP 3 POST-WORKOUT RECOVERY TIPS?
- Adequate nutrition – high protein and carbs.
- Body work e.g. massage.
WHAT DO YOU THINK IS THE BIGGEST MISCONCEPTION PEOPLE HAVE ABOUT INJURY RECOVERY IS?
That either resting or stretching are the best treatment options. In some cases resting may be necessary but in most cases injuries can be treated through exercises and strengthening.
WHICH FACETS OF PHYSIOTHERAPY ARE YOU MOST PASSIONATE ABOUT?
I love using movement and exercise rehabilitation to treat people. I also have a strong interest in Women’s Health Physiotherapy.

WHAT DOES A DAY IN THE LIFE OF KAYLA MULVOGUE LOOK LIKE?
Wake up early and run the classes at the Studio. Train a couple of clients before breakfast and then train myself. Work from my laptop or film content during the middle of the day and then see some Physio clients in the afternoon/evening. Dinner, read a book and then go to bed early.
