Many of you have been asking how you can responsibly discard the packaging that comes with your weekly order, so here you go!
Here are five pro-tips for recycling or repurposing the packaging, and making sure you never waste a meal.
Pro-Tip #1: Recycle, or Better Yet, Repurpose Your Meal Containers
Option 1: Give your meal container a good wipe down (food residue can prevent containers from being recycled) and drop it in your recycling bin for plastics.
Option 2: Think outside the box and repurpose your meal containers after giving them a good wash with warm soapy water. You can turn meal containers into trays to consolidate your:
- Office supplies
- Hair ties
- Spare buttons
- Loose change
- Makeup and skincare items
- Receipts you need to hold onto
- “Can’t leave the house without” items: keys, wallet, phone
Or think outside the box like @mygardenwithgrace below, who turned her MACROS meal containers into planters to grow seedlings!

Pro-Tip #2: Reuse or Recycle Your Delivery Box
Did you know that MACROS meal delivery boxes are made with 100% recyclable cardboard? Just flatten your delivery box and pop in your paper and cardboard recycling bin. The delivery boxes are also sturdy enough to reuse; why not use some as storage containers or moving boxes? One of the girls in the MACROS team also keeps a couple boxes handy in her car boot for carrying groceries.
Tip #3: Keep The Ice Packs Handy, or Recycle the Packaging
It can never hurt to have a heap of ice packs ready to go from the freezer to pop in your cooler bag for work or picnics, or to use as a cold pack for swelling and injuries. If you’re having people over, instead of buying ice to keep all the drinks cool, why not put them in a cooler bag with a pile of ice packs from a previous MACROS delivery?
You can also recycle the ice packs that come with your delivery. Simply cut them open once they’ve defrosted and pour the non-toxic gel down the sink. The plastic encasing can be placed in any recycling bin that takes soft plastics; these are popping up at more and more supermarkets.
Pro-Tip #4: Reuse or Recycle the Insulated Lining In Your Delivery Box
Use the insulated lining like you would bubble wrap to protect fragile items when you’re travelling or moving house. It also works as a makeshift car windshield sunshade, or an insulated bag for keeping grocery items cool on your way home from the supermarket.
Alternatively, the insulated lining can be responsibly discarded in a soft plastics recycling bin a the supermarket.
Pro-Tip #5: Order Only What You Need
If your schedule changes, make sure to change your plan size to reflect that so nothing goes to waste. Simply log in to your account, go to your Dashboard and select ‘Subscription Settings’. Then click the CHANGE PLAN button and follow the instructions from there.
Or, if your schedule changes last minute, pop the meals you know you’re not going to get through that week in the freezer for later.
