It comes as no surprise that Coachella has been cancelled for the second time in 2020, after originally being rescheduled to October due to social distancing restrictions. While we sadly pack away our sparkly outfits and body glitter until 2021, we look back onto one of the greatest Coachella performances ever and the inspirational woman behind it; Beyonce. Though you might not be able to see her perform anytime soon, you can definitely channel her pre-’chella workout energy into your own life. Here’s how.
Beyonce has always been an incredibly fit, powerful and strong woman. Nine months of pregnancy and giving birth is sure to take its toll on anyone’s body, and at the beginning of her Coachella journey she said, “After giving birth to twins, I was a woman that felt like my body was not mine”.
With the daunting task of singing, dancing, and wearing lots of tiny, tight, sparkly costumes in front of the world looming in her future, she wanted to get back in tip-top shape to give her Coachella performance her all. And that she did.
Starting at a weight of 175lb (about 80kg), she set herself a goal to eat only plant-based, unprocessed foods for 44 days. 44 days might seem like a pretty specific number, but Bey wasn’t going in on this journey alone; celeb health expert Marco Borges was getting in on this mission too, and he had a reason behind the diet duration.
Marco Borges pioneers the idea that it takes 21 days to form new habits, and that healthy eating should be a lifestyle habit rather than coming in the form of a crash diet. Beyonce was opting to do 44 days of his 22 Days Nutrition meal plan, which focuses on eating plant-based, unprocessed foods combined with regular exercise. As well as helping to lose weight, the plan is designed to improve mood, complexion and boost energy, which sounds pretty great to us.
If you’re keen to start reaping some of the benefits of a plant-based diet like Beyonce, you can check out our plant-based meal range here, featuring faves like the Veggie Udon Stir-Fry.
To complement the meal plan, Borges recommends 30-45 minutes of cardio a day, or a strength-training exercise like lifting weights. Of course, Beyonce would’ve also been rehearsing her incredible dance moves and performance throughout the 44 days too, so it’s likely she would’ve been pretty active during this period. For the rest of us that don’t make a living by being music industry royalty, getting to the gym every day before or after work can be a bit of hassle. Exercise does have a crazy amount of health benefits other than helping with weight loss though, so if you’re looking for some quick and easy at-home workouts, you can check out these celeb-approved ones, or maybe try some of these kettlebell exercises for a full-body workout.
Bey’s ‘chella bod came down to a few things. Eating small portioned, plant-based meals filled with fresh, unprocessed ingredients with minimal to no snacking throughout the day made up her diet. Doing 30-45 minutes of cardio or strength work every day formed her exercise (not including any additional booty-shaking). Reckon you could stick to this regime for 44 days?
MACROS ready-made meals are perfectly portioned to suit your health goals, whether you’re looking to dabble in the plant-based world like Beyonce, or looking to sculpt and tone with the help of some high protein, low-carb meals.
