Brighten your feed with a little extra body positivity as we come into spring and summer by chucking these inspiring celebs a follow. It’s usually this time of year we start hearing ‘get your summer bod ready!’, but it’s 2020 and all bodies are summer bodies, and they come in many different shapes and sizes. Ditch the airbrushed magazines and instead turn to these powerful icons for guidance on how to start feeling hot for summer (sans the crash dieting and guilt).

Jameela Jamil @jameelajamilofficial
After seeing a post on the ‘gram featuring the entire female Kardashian/Jenner clan pictured alongside their weight, Jameela had enough. Since then she’s been a pretty outspoken body neutrality advocate, calling out influential people for posting about weight loss pills and starting an inclusive Instagram account @i_weigh (well worth a follow as well).
But wait – what’s ‘body neutrality’? Essentially, this is a newer way of saying ‘body positivity’, where instead of trying to focus on feeling positive about your body, it’s about straight-up not thinking about it at all. It possesses a similar message to the body positivity movement, about not worrying about the way you look, but pushes the point that we shouldn’t have to be thinking about our bodies because all bodies are normal. After all, every minute spent worrying about your body is a moment less thinking about your career, goals, loved ones and hobbies!

Lizzo @lizzobeeating
We couldn’t write a body posi article and not include our QUEEN Lizzo. She’s done a lot to celebrate people of all sizes and colours, and is on a mission to normalise back fat, bellies that hang and thighs that don’t overlap. You know, just all the normal things everyone has.
Her Instagram is full of chic pictures of her in sartorial clothing, sexy lingerie (we spot our fair share of Rihanna’s Savage x Fenty range), strong activism, and, of course, music. Give her a follow for a healthy dose of each, as well as some serious feel-good vibes.

Drew Barrymore @drewbarrymore
Thurst into the limelight pretty much the second she was birthed into the world, Drew Barrymore is no stranger to worldwide scrutiny. She’s been very transparent with her fluctuating weight over the years, but has learnt to love and accept her body type for the way it is. After deciding to start working out to become happy, healthy and strong, she credits any weight loss from that as a bonus, rather than as the aim.
These days she’s posting unedited, make-up free pics to her IG, talking about important issues and trying to spread as much positivity as she can through her channels and talk show.

Serena Williams @serenawilliams
As one of the world’s top athletes, you’d think being ‘too strong’ would be a good thing. People tried to use that as an insult against her though, which Serena has used to highlight the inequalities in the sporting world. She’s spoken about what it was like growing up in a world where she didn’t see women that looked like her on TV, in magazines or even broadcast playing sports.
Not just content with being a voice and figure for body positivity, Serena has taken her skills off-court too by starting an inclusive eponymous fashion range. The stylish collection offers sizes from XS to 3XL, ensuring women of all body types can find the perfect fit.

Jonathan Van Ness @jvn
While men might not be under as much pressure to compete with the ever-changing body ideals of women, they can still face scrutiny for not looking a certain way. Literal human sunshine beam Jonathan Van Ness has been open about his struggles with disordered eating in the past, and how he felt he needed to look a certain way to be loved. Though it took him a long time to realise that unrealistic beauty standards are just that – unrealistic – he now spends his time loving his body for the way it is, and encouraging others to do the same. His IG feed is packed with fun gymnastics videos, crazy cool fashion and empowering images for people of all genders, sizes and colours.
