It’s silly season, which means we’re eating out more, consuming more bevvies and generally celebrating the year that’s been. And after the cracker 2020 we’ve had, what with global pandemics, crazy elections and historical protests and movements, it’s fair to say we all deserve a couple of drinks or two.
Indulging in a couple of extra drinks at the work Christmas party doesn’t mean your diet has to go out the window though. It’s possible to still cheer to the year while sticking to your calorie and macro goals. Wondering how? Here are 8 low-cal drinks you can order to help you celebrate in a healthier style.

White Wine – 120 Calories
Always a classic when opting for a low-cal drink, your average glass of white wine sits at around 120 cals. It’s not just a low-cal drink though – white wine complements a range of foods like seafood, chicken and nuts, so pop one of our Fettuccini with Garlic Chilli Prawns in the microwave and pour yourself a glass of the finest.

Champagne – 95 Calories
It wouldn’t be a toast without some fancy champagne! Cheers to 2021 when the clock strikes midnight on New Year’s Eve with a glass of champagne knowing you’re not breaking your daily calorie budget. At only 95 cals per average glass, you can afford to make a couple of toasts with this one.

Low-Cal Beer – 104 Calories
With the craft beer industry booming, low cal doesn’t necessarily mean low flavour when it comes to beer anymore. Low-calorie beers rack up an average of 104 cals per drink, which is pretty good when you consider an average pint of beer can be anywhere from 180 cals upwards. If you’re a beer lover, opt for a low-cal option and save those extra cals for a second helping of ham.

Any Spirit With Soda – e.g. Vodka Soda 100 Calories
Spirits are generally pretty low in calories (especially clear ones), so any spirit paired with soda or water is going to be a safe choice calorie-wise. The classic vodka soda comes in at around 100 calories, plus it’s a pretty refreshing choice on a warm Aussie summer day.

Whisky Ginger – 120 Calories
Whisky with dry ginger ale or diet ginger is a great low-cal option for those who love dark spirits at around 120 calories. Have it in a tall glass with plenty of ice and a squeeze of lime and you’ve got a thirst-quenching drink to sip on this festive season.

Mojito – 170 Calories
While it’s not the lowest calorie drink you can order, if you’re after a cocktail, a mojito is one of the lowest-calorie. Made up of only rum, lime juice, mint, sugar and soda water, it sits at 170 calories, but can come it at even less if you forgo the sugar.

Hard Seltzer – 100 Calories
Alcoholic seltzer is the drink that’s been taking the world by storm thanks to the OG brand that made it popular, White Claw. Coming in at around 100 calories on average (depending on the brand), you can get a wide variety of flavours to keep things interesting.

Martini – 124 Calories
A martini is one of the lowest cal cocktails you can order, but it’s also a pretty boozy pick. If you’re after the classy James Bond aesthetic though, a martini is around 124 calories per drink, making it a great cocktail choice for those counting their calories. The calorie count is so low because it’s essentially cold gin with a little vermouth, so if you’re on the martinis, make sure you only have a couple!
